Reds Set Sights On Cavani

With only a mere three days left before the January transfer window comes to  an end, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish will be hoping to tie-up a shocking deal for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani as an ideal replacement for the under-firing Andy Carroll.

Courtesy of footybunker.com, the Uruguayan international has reportedly entered to radar of Dalglish after the Kop legend has publicly named him as the archetypal man to lead the side back into UEFA Champions League contention. Liverpool are currently lying in an uncomfortable seventh position in the Barclays Premier League standings, six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea whilst ten behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Cavani, regarded as one of the most dangerous strikers from South America, is certainly not short of a beauteous goal record as he has managed to bag in 51 goals from a total of 72 games for Napoli in the Italian Serie A so far. However, it remains a big question mark on whether if the Reds are willing to splash out the massive £30 million pound asking price set by Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri. Interesting fact is that the price tag has, so far, fended off interests from Premier League megabucks Manchester City and Chelsea.

The 24-year-old (turning 25 in February) has recently inspired his side to a remarkable victory over Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia, scoring both goals in their 2-0 win over Claudio Ranieri’s side at the San Paolo.

How about teammates at Liverpool?

My Opinion:

I do think that Liverpool really lack the final touch, which have resulted countless disappointing draws at Anfield this season. Andy Carroll is simply not clinical enough in front of goal and with the absence of Luis Suarez, the side’s getting over-reliable on the likes of captain Steven Gerrard and Craig Bellamy to find the back of the net.

The big signing of a world-class striker before the transfer window ends is obviously what the Reds badly need at the moment. And my stance on Edinson Cavani’s arrival? I’ll be praying for Kenny Dalglish to secure the deal, even if it is to bump Andy Carroll into the sidelines for the rest of the season.
